Winner Of The Month November, 2010.

Imagination is more powerful than knowledge

There is a dreams major difference between the dreamer and one that lives their You can dream all you like, wish for anything that you want, but if you do not act upon your dreams, then ultimately that is what they will remain, a dream or just a fantasy. In the same way, it is important to follow your imagination and act upon it. You will also come to realise that your imagination is more powerful than knowledge learnt, when that same knowledge fades in your mind, like a book gathering dust and never read.
When you follow your imagination, have the self belief to put an action plan together and have the persistence to carry it through to the end, incredible things will begin to happen that can ultimately transform your life. It is this understanding of how powerful your imagination is and developing it into reality, which makes all the difference. There are too many of us that have the imagination, then do not know how to use it. Maybe it is the fear of the unknown or to be more precise, the fear of failure.
To prove that imagination is more powerful than knowledge, you only have to look at the great minds of the past and with us now in the present. Without their unique understanding of imagination and their addictive need to then follow that imagination, we would not now be touched by what we see in the world that we now live in and all the incredible innovations that are now taking place right before our very eyes. It is indeed these visionaries that had a single thought and had the foresight to act upon them.
Does this not give you a clue as to what can be achieved when you start to follow your imagination and have the courage to become what you think about. The great Earl Nightingale once said that what you think about, is what you become in The Strangest Secret and it has become quite a modern concept that every self-acclaimed so called expert decides to teach. What was once regarded as an unfashionable cause and effect, is now known as the law of attraction and thanks to the excellent The Secret, it seems to be everywhere. This I believe is a good comparison in showing how powerful your imagination is and what can be achieved with a little self belief.

"IMAGINATION IS MORE POWERFUL THAN KNOWLEDGE."

Is imagination more important than knowledge? A ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ would be too definite an answer. To me, both knowledge and imagination are indispensable aspects and prerequisites for a good piece of work be it in the field of writing, art, science etc. Both complement each other and don’t offer any competition to each other. However, having said that, I must mention here that though imagination and knowledge are inseparable, the scale seems to be tilted more towards imagination compared to knowledge.
Knowledge is something technical in nature and there are zillion of ways of acquiring it. One the other hand, imagination is something you are born with and hence can’t be acquired. Suppose one wants to make a movie on some historical event or personality. He can have all the facts, figures and information about his subject at his doorstep through an array of channels like books, encyclopedias, pictures etc. But only having access to such information won’t serve the purpose. He needs to kindle his imagination and creativity to make it appealing, interesting and engaging. A good knowledge of the subject can only help in rendering authenticity to his work. Oodles of creativity sparkled with imagination is needed otherwise it will become one trite, dull, lifeless work something not many would be willing to take interest in. Acquiring knowledge about the subject isn’t much of a hassle. The real strenuous exercise is to weave a creative story on the backdrop of the knowledge acquired.
A case in this point could be the iconic and landmark Bollywood movie Lagay Raho Munnabhai made on the theme of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies and their relevance in this modern era. A lot of movies have been made on the aforementioned theme and/or with Mahatma Gandhi as the main backdrop. But none of them have been able to achieve the stupendous success and cult status Lagay Raho Munnabhai has enjoyed. This is not saying that the other movies are bad and not worth their salt. But when it comes to movies based on Gandhi ji’s teachings, the one that springs to the mind automatically is none other than Lagay Raho Munnabhai. Ever thought why? The answer lies in the treatment of the subject. The way Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies were woven with the story was simply awesome and hats off to them for using every ounce of their creativity and imagination to make the Gen X imbibing Gandhi ji and his teaching again without the fear of being labeled antiquated and uncool. Otherwise Gandhi ji’s teaching and ideologies are something we’ve grown up on hearing. But Lagay Raho Munnabhai made us ‘listen’ to it rather than just ‘hear’. Now, Gandhi ji’s teachings are in vogue again and become the ‘in-thing’ today for the makers and shapers of tomorrow’s world. ‘Gandhigiri’ is no longer just a term. It has become a way of living.
Cutting the long story short, the long and short of my views is that imagination has an edge over knowledge and by inference, is definitely more important than knowledge.

ONLINE EDUCATION IS BETTER THAN CLASSROOM EDUCATION.

The Internet has provided an implausible opportunity for easy education through online programs, but it is not an eccentric to the classic academic environment. There’s a rapid growing interest in online education, as it has some noticeable advantages; but it also has many serious disadvantages, which are usually ignored. In fact, online education is an opportunity for some people who have some limitations, but in general it cannot replace the classic education in any circumstances. Online learning is just a support and cannot be a substitute of academic learning.
Well, one of the biggest disadvantages of online education is the lack of human interaction. Without this, there is a large dimension in teaching that is lost. Not everyone will absorb learning from this mode of education.
Those who have self-discipline and the technologically savvy will be able to benefit from online education the most as opposed to people who are not. This is another disadvantage to e-learning. So, once again, those who are lacking in such discipline and skill will not be able to benefit from e-learning solutions.
Changing technology may create to barriers to accessing learning environment. As with new teaching methods, online teaching has faced much belittling from many sources as they claim it has devalued post secondary education and will reduce the effectiveness of obtaining quality career positions by obtaining higher education. These skeptics claim many existing barriers to effectively learning complex subjects in an online- only settings. They also feel that it isolates the students from one another as well as their instructors reducing the overall value of taking the course.
Another disadvantage is limited understanding of effective teaching method due to the youth of online learning. Due to the youth of online learning, there has been little research conducted to evaluate the teaching methods or the effectiveness.
While, classroom learning provides interactive classroom settings that promotes the open exchange of ideas. Having numerous students learning in the same classroom has the added benefit of allowing students to trade ideas and questions with one another providing another valuable learning medium that online environment cannot replicate. First-hand interaction with the educating teacher or professor also allows for ideas to be exchanged freely and without any communication barriers.
Although the cost is considered as an advantage for online education, it is also a disadvantage for the following reasons:
·       Most of the students in the classroom education system gain various supporting funds from different sources (e.g. scholarships, universities, government, etc.), but there are only few sources for online students.
·       A significant part of the classic education expenses are related to the student life(e.g. accommodation); whereas, online students may pay some additional expenses(which are not part of education or everyday life) like high- speed internet, software, shipping, etc.
Another purpose of higher education is living in an academic environment, and this assists the students to experience a new life in an educated society (devoted to education and study). In fact, the students do not participate in technical classes only, but also they actively participate in various social activities in the community. Even from the technical education point of view, informal discussions out of the class significantly help them to improve their problem- solving skills.
For online education, people need to spend much time on computer and have less connection with the society (not only with the academic society, but also the public society).
There are also some controversial views on online education as well. For instance, academic accreditation of online degree is an important controversial issue, and indeed the main obstacle of online education development. Contrary to the common belief that the accreditation of is a constant problem related to the nature of online education, many problems are due to the fact that online universities are quite young.
On the other hand, launching an online campus is not difficult and expensive; thus many online universities without qualified education system have been established during the past years Moreover, for some of the, this is a kind of business for making money rather than for education purpose. Some people make the mistake of thinking that just because advertisements for online educational programs often use such catchy phrases as “Learn at your convenience” or “education at your pace”, it means they can pick an choose when or even they attend class, but online classes have strict requirements regarding how often attend and to what extent they participate.
Many online classes use e-books, which students find exasperating, mainly because reading for long periods of time on a computer screen can be tiresome.
The fact of mater is that many people simply learn better in a classroom setting. Some people thrive on the conversation of a topic with other people, which is something they feel uncomfortable with in an online situation. Typing a message or post to somebody isn’t the same as verbalizing a point of view.
Classroom training allows for an individualized approach that cannot easily be duplicated in an online setting Instructors can answer questions and provide hands-on answers that should satisfy most curiosities. This allows the students to learn readily and to effectively engage all of their senses with the material.
With classroom training, employees are around other workers and are learning the same material. This allows for constructive team building, as people are joining together to work out basic problems and find solutions as a group. This coupled with individualized sense of theory; helps create a strong team within the staff.
Ideally, online education is an opportunity for those who are not able to receive classroom education. If someone wishes to learn a discipline or enjoy all facets of the education experience, it is not an apposite way. A classroom enables a learner to experience support from peers and instructor. This gives a sense of encouragement and belonging to the student, allowing more time to learn things properly. So, I shall conclude by saying “Online education is NOT better than classroom education”.
